Our Process

Scheduling Your First Appointment

We understand that for most people, asking for help is a big step! Once an individual makes the effort to book their initial appointment, they have already started on their path towards positive change.

We accept self-referrals – you can simply phone or email the Clinic. Alternatively, you can be referred by another regulated health professional such as medical doctor, social worker, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, chiropractor, massage therapist, or other appropriate health professional.

Assessing Your Needs

Before we can provide you with psychological services, we would like to learn more about your wants, needs and preferences for psychotherapy and/or neurofeedback brain training. To help gather this information, our assistant Hayley will guide you through a brief screening interview over the telephone. The screening will also help us determine whether we are able to provide you with the appropriate psychological services.

Psychotherapy Sessions

Psychotherapy sessions are for 50 minutes — plus 10 minutes for preparation and documentation.

Neurofeedback Training Sessions

When you come for NeurOptimal® neurofeedback brain training at Onward, you can expect to be at the Clinic for 45 minutes. While each neurofeedback training session provides 33 minutes of brain training, there is also about 10 minutes for set-up, hooking up and unhooking the electrodes, and concluding the session.

Fees and Payments

Please note that OHIP does not cover fees for psychological services. Rates for psychotherapy with Dr. Bonnie Seidman are based on the guidelines set by the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA). Rates for neurofeedback brain training at Onward are based on the current market rates for neurofeedback brain training in Ontario.  For more information, please phone the clinic to inquire.

Payment for psychological services are made at the end of each appointment and a receipt will be issued. Please note that the clinic requires 24-hour notice to cancel an appointment without penalty. Appointments cancelled less than 24 hours in advance, as well as no-shows, will be charged the full regular rate of the psychological service.

Insurance

If you have extended health insurance, you may be covered for psychological services. We encourage you to check with your insurance provider to determine your coverage. If you have insurance coverage, you would pay for your session and submit your receipt to your insurance provider for reimbursement. If you are a Canadian Forces or RCMP Veteran, claims for psychological services are submitted directly to Medavie Blue Cross.
